Metro Ride

If God is in the details,

then why is everything so poorly designed?

Divine conception clearly did not account for humans.

If there is glory in granularity,

then why do we cling to generalities?

There is no such thing as Manifest Destiny,

if our best manifestations crumble

upon closer examination.

We didn't account for the sprawl

of suburbs and good (misguided) intentions,

of urban planning and unplanning

plots of land with no protagonists,

sidewalks like cracked spines

in ghost towns and skeleton cities

Interstate winding like a clogged artery,

exhausted tires deflating

as they press onward.

If God is in the details,

then where is He?
